Many are familiar with the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Education Act, the only federally supported program for advanced learning. Working through grants, the Javits Program helps support equity and advancement of advanced learning through direct grants to schools and districts and grants towards research. This grant has recently come under fire from the presidential administration, echoing FY20 and FY21 when the grant was almost removed. The NGTSAB understands the importance of the Javits Act in supporting advanced education and has elected to submit an outside witness testimony to the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, addressed to the Department of Education on the 13th of June 2025. This is one major step towards protecting the federal funding for advanced education, but it will take reaching out to senators and representatives to protect the act if it is brought to Congress.
